A lot of It
professionals consider hiring IT recruiters, a necessary thing to do, going
back to the late 90s. I would say that most of that criticism was warranted. I
think it’s alright to say though that things in 2010 have moved on somewhat.
The REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation) have encouraged and
supported professional codes of conduct within the industry and on the whole
the industry has given a response. Ifyou are looking for a new job in IT, it will be better to look for a good ITrecruitment consultant and work at nurturing the relation with them. These guys
are talking to IT clients hiring managers all day long, so they know how hard
it is in the IT job market and worth keeping in touch with.
We will give
you a few tips to find a good IT recruitment:
- Find
consultants with a good grasp of the technologies and areas you work in so that
they will be able to, not only sell you but also identify other potential
opportunities.
- Search
for them on LinkedIn. These days any IT recruiter worth their salt will have a
LinkedIn Profile. You'll be able to tell what sort of experience they have and
see who, if anyone has recommended them.
- Also
check with the REC’s website. Any reputable IT recruitment firm will holdcorporate membership with the REC. This means that they agree to be bound by
the REC codes of conduct.
- The REC also holds a register of
individual IT recruiters who are IRP ACCREDIRED ( INSTITUTE OF RECRUITMENT
PROFESSIONALS) These are IT recruiters who have earned the right to use the
letters "FIRP" and "MIRP" after their name, a badge of
quality for anyone serious about recruitment.
- Also many IT recruitment
consultants recruit in vertical markets, so find someone who operates in your
particular space. If you're an Oracle developer, for example, there are plenty
of good IT recruitment consultants who specialize in your technical area
- For good IT recruitment keep these steps in mind and you will surely get your desired job.
